This month, we’re playing: Project Hail Mary (PG-13)

Produced and directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller and written by Drew Goddard, this March 2026 science fiction film is based on the 2021 novel by Andy Weir. 

A rare early-season box office smash, Project Hail Mary is already sparking Oscars 2027 buzz. It won the 2026 Critics Choice Awards for Best Science Fiction/Fantasy Movie and Best Actor in a Science Fiction/Fantasy Movie.

Middle-school science teacher and former molecular biologist Ryland Grace (Ryan Gosling) wakes up from an induced coma on an interstellar spaceship, Hail Mary, with complete amnesia. Discovering his two crewmates are dead, his memories slowly return: a microscopic alien organism called Astrophage is consuming the Sun’s energy, threatening Earth with an ice age. Sent on a desperate, one-way suicide mission to find a star immune to the plague, Grace encounters an unexpected alien ally — a clever, rock-like, spider-like engineer named Rocky (James Ortiz). Together, they must solve the scientific puzzle to save their respective home worlds.
